Hogmanay
Well, can anybody tell me what does the title means? Guess so you will not know it unless you are in Scotland.. Actually, Hogmanay is a word used for the last day of the year and usually used to celebrate new year together. In other words, it's just a new year's eve.
Usually on new year eve, if i am back in Malaysia, i will be going to some place like The Curve or 1U for countdown. Normally, will just wait for the clock to reach 12am and there goes the fireworks, up into the sky... And thats all...
This year in Scotland, decided to work on new year's eve.. yeah, i know i should not work on new year's eve since its the only new year eve that i gonna experience in UK.. But since i have no plans for the countdown, working seems to be a brilliant idea.. Moreover, the pay rate was double the normal rate..
In the end, i was send to work at Tall Ship, Basically, Tall Ship is an old ship that was converted to a restaurant... Working as waiter most of the time and cleaning tables...
I think i chose the right option to work on new year's eve.. It was just worth it.. Firstly, we served the customers and their 3 course dinner meal was worth 40 pounds.. And in the end, we ate their 3 course meal which was worth 40 pounds for free!! Its not the leftover of what they ate, the chef cooked extra... Not too bad the meal, and i ate an extra half a chicken.. Really good and filling...
Besides that, the supervisor also let us to have a drink for free since its new year's eve today. He don't care whether it is vodka, whisky or whatever, we can just order it.. I chose kronberg 1664.. just a normal beer though... We got some tips at the end too...
In conclusion, the BENEFITS of working on new year's eve are:
1.Handsome pay.
2.Manage to eat their 3 course meal for free which was worth 40 pounds.
3.Manage to drink alcohol for free too.
4.Get some tips at the end too.
5.Free taxi ride back at 2.30am (supervisor paid)
6. Experience some Scottish celebration too..
We get to see fireworks too on the ship!!
What a day and it was just simply splendid!!
